Stewart W. Bedford BVSc CertSAS MRCVS

Stewart qualified from Liverpool University in 1987. He has worked in veterinary practice since then, initially being senior surgeon in charge of orthopaedics and general surgery at two large veterinary hospitals. Stewart set up a general practice in Shrewsbury in 1994. He gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 1998 and has offered an orthopaedic referral service to practices across Shropshire and it’s bordering counties since then.

Stewart opened Shrewsbury Pet Hospital in March 2007, where the brand new premises allow for dedicated orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery suites, so that advanced procedures can be performed with minimal risks of infection. The new premises also allow us to provide the essential 24 hour nursing care that many of our patients need.

Hip Disease – Triple pelvic osteotomy or non-cemented total hip replacements.

Cruciate Disease Surgery – Widely published research has shown conventional surgery to give just as good results as more complex surgery (eg. TPLO) but with less post-op complications. We have a very high success rate in all sizes of dog and feel no need to experiment with new techniques on your clients pets.	£800

Myelography – Investigation of any spinal problem can be undertaken, with a view to surgery as necessary.	From £300
Spinal Surgery – Cases can be seen as emergencies, 24 hours a day, as time is often of the essence in acute onset paralysis. Procedures performed include fenestration, hemilaminectomy, dorsal laminectomy and ventral slots.	From £650 (not including myelography)
Arthroscopy – Minimally invasive technique to investigate and treat joint disease, such as non-specific shoulder lameness.	From £400
