Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI is an imaging process that has established itself as the diagnostic investigation of choice in human medicine. With its superior contrast sensitivity and tissue discrimination, MRI is unparalleled in the imaging of soft tissues. Images can be produced in any plane and without any radiation risk, making MRI now the gold standard method of investigation in 95% of clinical cases..
In conjunction with Burgess Diagnostics, Pearl Referrals are very pleased to be able to offer a cost effective MRI scanning facility to the patients of our colleagues in veterinary practice. Burgess Diagnostics’ dedicated veterinary mobile MRI scanning unit will now visit us at Shrewsbury Pet Hospital on a regular basis. This means that you can now offer your clients the sort of technology previously reserved only for human medicine.
MRI scans are performed by a qualified radiographer, specialising in veterinary MRI. The referring veterinary surgeon will receive a radiographer’s report on the day of the scan and the scans are forwarded to you. A copy of the scans are also sent to Geoff Skerritt for his expert interpretation and copy of his specialist report is forwarded to you a few days after scanning.
The wide range of applications of MRI include:-
Brain
Spine
Joints
Soft tissues
